display posts like portfolio (sortable by category)

is there anyway to display posts from a specific category a portfolio – something like this: http://demo.crocoblock.com/free-themes/free_multi_wordpress/portfolio/#

it’d need to be sort able as well like the portfolio ^^ with child categories of the specific category…
