    I would recommend disabling WP-Members as well, since it surely has a hand in creating new members. Get the add-user function working in WP first so you know where the source of the problem is.

    If you can add a user without plugins activated, then try again with the Members plugin, being sure to clear browser cookies and cache first.

    If you can’t add users without plugins, something else is going on.

    thanks was the WP-Members plugin causing the problem

    Glad you identified the troublemaker. Maybe there’s an update for the plugin? Or maybe ask about it in the plugin’s support forum.
