    It’s probably just a custom page template that lists all the archives with number of posts. Some bits may be plugins like the popular posts bit.

    on your first link if you take the time to search through the plugins he suggests you find this Extended Live Archives and he suggests you look at the page you linked to to see it in action. I’m surprised in the time your were waiting for an answer you didn’t check that yourself.
