I have been told by technical support at my host (iPage) that my site is infected with malware.

I thought I had paid for a product that secured the site against malware attacks, but in fact they had sold me a product that is only good for the last seven days – backing up from this is the infection is older than seven days is apparently no use now as the infection is older than that.

They suggested I recreate the site form scratch but I am not willing to dot hat as it would take far too long.

Is there a way to remove malware myself (and keep the site safe?)

There is advice and other resources here:

Thankyou, I will check these out.

It seems that I am paying for a virtually useless “security” product from iPage.

You can clean it yourself too, just need to locate the malware and remove infected code.

EDIT:download the last backup and run it through some malware checker, as i am not on windows and dont require a Virus scanner, i use online website like https://www.virustotal.com/ to scan for any infection, make a zip of your files and upload it to check there.

creating from scratch is hard, you can ask hosting for a older backup from the date you suspect website was hacked and try restoring it.

    Hi Laliz

    Thanks for the advice.

After looking at threads on downloading my WordPress site I have now installed Apache.

I installed the Sucuri plug in yesterday and what is already becoming clear is that there are a hell of a lot of attempted hacks going on.
