First – don’t mess with theme files. If you want to edit theme files then consider creating a child theme for that: http://docs.themeisle.com/article/14-how-to-create-a-child-theme

And you can use the following CSS to change the menu text color, using Simple Custom CSS plugin or a child theme:

.navbar-inverse .navbar-nav > li > a {
    color: #404040 !important;
}
