Plugin reccomendations for forums?

Does anyone know a forum plugin that focuses more on providing a discussion board type platform as opposed to a social network/question and answer style?

I just want something where people can come and discuss topics in one place without all the unnecessary extras. Don’t get me wrong, user profiles are nice but personally I’d rather have a basic profile and the main functionality of the plugin to be based solely around discussion forums.
