Parent and Sub Filtering

How is the Parent function designed to work? If I tag something as a child filter that has a parent, both the child and parent filters show up in the horizontal list of filters.

The child filter is essentially just its own filter, there’s no need for the parent.

Is it possible when I chose the parent filter, the child filter then appears. For example, I have a video, picture and document filter. When I click the picture filter, all the children filters then appear to filter the pictures even further down.

I have the paid default+ version.
