What is the best practice for driving traffic to the homepage if they first land on an indexed page?

Personally, I find it really annoying when I go to Google and search on a topic, and find an interesting page in the search engine results, but then when I click on the link, I end up redirected to the home page and then I have to search their site to find the content I was looking for.

More often than not I just give up and go on to the next site in the search engine listing.

As long as there is a clear link to the home page, I’ll find it if I’m so inclined to visit it. I don’t understand why sites want to drive away a visitor that just found their site by serving them content they didn’t search for.

    Thanks Matt!

I had a notion that would be the response, but I came with a work-around solution in the meantime I’ll share if anyone come on this post.

I plan to create a call-to-action widget or ad that teases the visitor over to the landing page and I’ll offer some free information for doing that and double dip by having them click through to my website: http://www.sellwithwebvideo.com. (only made sense to add that in here too)

Anything you could offer in that area would be appreciated.

I’ll let you know how it works.
Stop by sometime soon. I should have it live within the week as soon as I figure how operate the new Google Keyword Planner (the Tool bit the dust), but after several hours on the phone with 4 Google reps (very helpful), I think I’ve got a good plan.

    Thanks for the response!

I guess that didn’t make much sense since this IS the website. Or will be.
