    Hi. I’m using version 4.14.64. I’ve noticed a few issues on one of my sites. One of them is the time needed to run a scan. Yesterday it ran for over 4 hours, found 44 files to clean but eventually timed out. I have just restarted it focussing on wp-content. After 20 minutes it has done 206 out of 2764 folders. It seems to be blocking on wp-content/cache/db/000000/all/d7e.

    This is for a complete scan (the software recommended I do a complete scan).

    In parallel, I am using W3 Total Cache. Could this have anything to do with the speed? I’m hesitant to remove it as it was hard to configure.

    Any thoughts are welcome.

    Yes, cache folders contain lots of files that don’t really need to be scanned. If you are dealing with a possible infection you should disable all caching until you have eliminated the treat (maybe take this opportunity to measure the page speed with caching enabled and then turn caching off and empty the cache to see if it is even helping your site’s overall performance). Cached content can cause inconsistent results making it harder to determine the source of the infection and whether or not the infections have been removed.

    Alternatively, you can add the cache folder to the list of folders to skip scanning and my plugin will finish the Complete Scan more quickly, but you would still need to empty the cache anyway because it could cause the infections to display on your site even after my plugin has removed the threat.

    Hi.

    I disabled it, and the scan of wp-content took about 30 minutes – quite a difference! It turned up two known threats and cleaned them.
