I’m sorry you’re having a hard time of it.
For example, figuring out how to an image to my sidebar in FP2000, two minutes. In WP, two hours reading this forum then eventually having to download a third party widget to do it.
A plugin is likely the easiest way to go about it. The text widget does accept raw HTML code too.

Not impossible at all. If it’s a whole site then that’s just a move and there’s a good (and admittedly lengthy) article on that topic.

This forum is full of requests for help doing things that would be a two minute task in FP2000 but are a mammoth undertaking in WP.
Again, I’m sorry you’re having a rough time. But WordPress is a development platform and doesn’t really compare to a tool like FP2000.
With WordPress knowing HTML, CSS and PHP are not hard requirements. But it really helps and many people produce some amazing results with just a little knowledge.

I can’t tell if you’re really being serious or just going for the chuckles…
Take a little time and acclimate yourself to the change in environment. Anything new has a learning curve. Basic html is the same.
I have now just wasted a whole evening trying and failing to figure out how to add an external link to my WP site.
Constructing proper hyperlinks, placing images, etc… still the same, still basic html, even if you’re doing it outside of a post or page.
No need to apologize, but there is a need to learn the basics before you condemn something out of shear lack of understanding.

Let me remind you that WordPress is free open source software which means that it is virtually impossible to develop excellent system right away. Also, WordPress is constantly being updated which means that contributors work non-stop to make WordPress a better system.
And besides, it is not correct to compare website management software with WordPress – these are two completely different this, because WordPress allows you to use pre-made system with an option to customize, and, of course, system made by someone else is much harder to modify that the one that you created yourself.
Everybody has got their own preference, so you are free to choose whichever option you want but keep in mind that 60+ million websites that run WordPress mean something.
Keep exploring and soon enough you will realize that it’s really easily to customize (going beyond the available plugins) WordPress when you know all the under-the-hood features.

Thank you all for your measured responses and constructive advice. You are right of course, WP is the future whilst FP is the past. Looking back to when I first purchased FrontPage 98 I found it just as difficult to get a grip on. (Yes I was serious about currently using FP2000. I find it as easy for maintaining my websites as Word is for typing a letter!)
I’ll stick with WP after all. It’s going to be a hard slog but very little worthwhile in life comes easy, in my experience.
I tend to find I learn new subjects more easily from books so I’ve just ordered “WordPress Web Design For Dummies”.
(Have I just spoiled it again? 😀 )

It was a learning curve for me as well I am very new to WordPress but it is by far the easiest of the CMS (imho), The plugins are amazingly simple to use. The hardest thing that I find with WordPress is getting a host(free) that allows all the WordPress Functionality. I have yet not to find a solution to anything that I needed done.
