    Hi,

As you said, logic suggests that it’s the plugin that’s causing the issue. What you should do is fire up your FTP client and browse to your site’s root directory, then wp-content/plugins. Once you’re there, rename W3 Total Cache’s folder to something else. This should disable the plugin and hopefully bring your site back up. You should also be able to do this through the GoDaddy file manager that you mentioned if you’d prefer not to use FTP.

I would suggest only renaming it for now so you’re not actually removing any files. Hope it helps!

    Hi Eric,
I went into File Manager and changed the file name for the plugin but no luck, still getting the same error:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected end of file in /home/debigsmith/public_html/wp-content/themes/Divi/functions.php on line 426

Any recommended next course of action.

Much appreciate your input and support.
    Thanks, Headgame

Does that plugin ‘save the cache’ anywhere? Perhaps you have to try clear that cache.

    Hi Roy,
Not sure I can answer your question.
All I did was download and activate the plugin. Then shutdown and goodnight. Woke up to the error message.

Since I cannot open WordPress Admin, I’m not sure how to determine if the cache has been saved. I don’t see a file in File Manager that would be a “save” or temp file.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks, Headgame

You could try replacing the wp-admin folder with the same folder from a fresh download of WordPress. If that doesn’t work, you could try replacing all of the core WordPress files with those from a fresh WordPress install (exlcuding wp-content, .htaccess, wp-config.php, and favicon.ico). If you haven’t already made a backup, be sure to back up everything including your database before you begin.

    Hi Eric,
Thanks for the follow up suggestions. Since I cannot access the WP Admin, I am not sure how to download a fresh copy of WP. Can I do that through GoDaddy?
I already have done a backup so that’s covered.

What about deleting the offending plugin folder / files? Is there a risk to doing that? I’ve seen it suggested on other Forum threads.

Is there any way I can access the code line that is referred to in the error message?
If so, is there anything I can do to that code line that would likely corect the problem?
    Here’s the error message again:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected end of file in /home/debigsmith/public_html/wp-content/themes/Divi/functions.php on line 426

    I appreciate your feedback.
    Thanks, Headgame

Although the cache plugin may have something to do with this, the error you show is in your theme’s function.php file. And it is the very customizable Divi theme from Elegant Themes, which you may also have worked with when adding the cache plugin 🙂

If you still have the default TwentyFifteen theme installed, use your GD cPanel phpMyAdmin to change the template and stylesheet fields in the wp_options table to twentyfifteen If it is theme-related, this should get the site back and allow you to log in.

Thank you Lyle for your suggestion.

I see that the folder is named twentyfourteen not twentyfifteen.
I am assuming I do not have a twentyfifteen theme istalled – correct?
    Any other suggestions?

Thanks again Lyle for your feedback.

That is correct; you have TwentyFourteen available, so try twentyfourteen instead and see if that gets you in.

    OK, thanks, Lyle.
I will give it a try and report back.

What is your opinion regarding deleting the plugin I just installed before the issue occurred?

    Thanks, Headgame

At this point, I would suggest renaming the wp-plugins folder to disable all plugins. Once you are able to log in again, you can then reactivate them one by one to test which one is causing the issue.

    Thank you, Lyle.
That seems like a very good suggestion.
I will make that change and report back.

    Lyle,
I have located the template and stylesheet fields. They are currently populated as “Divi” and “Dive-child” respectively.
Do I just change those fields to twentyfourteen?
Thank you for your interest in my issue.

    Lyle,
Sorry, forgot to mention that I renamed the plugins folder but still generating the same error.
