disqus comments count not always showing hyperlink

I have the Disqus Comment System plugin installed and for the most part, it is working quite well. But I’m having a problem with the comment count not always showing a hyperlink to the comments.

On the index page that shows 6 posts showing only the opening before the “more tag”, the comment count is surrounded only by

<span class="dsq-postid" data-dsqidentifier=" […] </span>

How can I get the comment count to act the way it does when the post is expanded? ie: the dsq-postid span surrounded by an anchor tag pointing to the post

I have already searched as best I can. Thank you for any help you can offer.
