Menu not highlighting active page

While building an artist site using WPFolio, I found some problems with the menu.

First, although the menu highlights the active page for most pages it does not work for the blog page. I read that WPFolio does not have a full-featured blog page (no sidebar with usual links) so I imported a sidebar from Twenty-Fifteen and added to the WPFolio page. The sidebar seems to work just fine but the menu does not highlight the blog item and it does not capitalize.

I looked at the menu with Firebug, tried looking at some of the files involved in building the page and the stylesheet but can’t find what is wrong. (The HTML/php code is still confusing.)

Second, under Portfolio in the menu there is a “Figures” page. There is no way to tell what page you are looking at because the menu does not show the page.
