this is pretty frustrating as it happened right while writing a new post, the error came up when i went to preview it, then save it.

    current state: i’m the administrator.

i can log in and out no problem. publicly the site appears to be working as expected. if it hit add posts, i’m able to start a new one, although i haven’t tried on that screen.

if i look at posts and try to edit one that has been published or is in draft mode, i get an “Access Denied.” page. if i hit preview, i am able to see the post.

    my theme is travelify.

i have the following plugins installed and activated:
    adsense explosion 1.1.4
    akismet 3.1
    google analytics by yoast 5.3.2
    great circle mapper 0.0.2
    insert php 1.2
    recent posts widget extended 0.9.9
    shareaholic 7.6.1.1
    shortcode exec php 1.51
    simple lightbox 2.3.1
    subscribe2 10.18.4
    tinymce advanced 4.1.7

i’m scared of busting something by toggling any on and off, although i tried a few deactivates and nothing helped. all back on now. please advise!

i’ve since turned off singular or sets of these plugins and have eventually turned them all now back on. at no time did the access denied message go away.

i fixed this. i found the file permissions were 0200 instead of 0604, which a lot of other files were. this was the post.php. how in the hell could the permissions have changed though?

    @sickmint79

Permission could be changed by many things:
    1. You moved files from other server with this kind of permissions.
    2. Attempted to change permissions for one file but changed it for the entire website folder. A small mistake but really easy to make.
    3. Automated WordPress installed (if you were using one) could have used this kind or permissions.
    4. Your website got hacked.
    5. Some “security” plugin had too tight security configuration that made website too secure.

Maybe some other reasons. Keep an eye on your website to see it changes gets reverted.

doesn’t seem to be any of those – rather strange. will keep an eye on it indeed.
