• OK – I’m new to this and getting totally confused. I need to simply know how to customize a theme! I see that there is the option to customize in the dashboard, then if you want more changes you have to go to the theme detail page! If you do that, you can’t see what you’ve changed!

& do you need to create a child theme to make changes, so you won’t lose them when updates come in?

I really don’t understand this at all! Please help! Should it be that complicated to make a few changes to the layout! & even if the description says it’s 3 columns, I download it, and it’s not 3 columns and there is no way to find page layout options – because they probably don’t exist! Please help if you can!

  • I understand it can be really overwhelming at first, but it gets better.

First what theme do you have because all themes are different. Some allow different changes allowed then others.

Well I have tried about 10 of them. I’m not satisfied with any of them. I used to create websites with Dreamweaver, so it’s frustrating not being able to have the freedom to create the way I want the page to feel.

Here’s a simple one that I’d like to customize. The Circumference Lite. Well the problem is, how do I create a 3 column page layout with it? I don’t see an option for page layouts. Is it not capable?

Also, please explain what Child Theme’s mean. I’ve read the definition posted, but I don’t understand this concept. Do you need to do this anytime you customize something in your theme?
