    Hello!!

I am running two themes on my site: one in the root directory for a blog, and another separate WP install with an eCommerce theme in a subdirectory (i.e. http://www.site.com/shop).

I have been reading about multisite vs. subdirectory, and have decided to just run the eCommerce theme from it’s own install/subdirectory to keep things easier for me.

Last night, I was unable to upload any files to the Media Library – I was getting an Http error. However, that has since been resolved. Now, I can upload files, and I get a URL to where the image/file is located on the server, but if I go into a post/page/etc. and want to add, say a featured image, when the window comes up to select an image from the library, there is nothing listed. If I go back into the Media Library, nothing shows up at all either. (For example, here the url to the image I was able to upload: http://dev.spentgrains.org/shop/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/beer_flight.jpg) – so the image successfully uploads, but just isn’t reflected in the library.

Any ideas as to why this would be happening, and any fixes?

Thanks in advance! I hope that makes sense!!

  • When using separate WordPress installs, it is recommended that you do not put one WordPress site in a sub-directory of another. Instead, install the site using a sub-domain.

Using the method above, you wouldn’t theoretically receive the HTTP error.

I’m not getting the HTTP error any more. That issue is resolved. I am able to upload the files successfully now, but they are just not displaying in the Media Library, as they normally would.

That was going to be my next option… I was just reading advice that for SEO purposes, it’s better to use subdirectories, rather than a subdomain.

If there is an easy fix for this issue, I’d like to try and keep it all in a subdirectory. If not, I guess I know what the alternative is! 🙂

I’m not an SEO guru, so I am not too sure..

Might be a file permissions issue:

BTW, sub-directories should not be a problem –

Also make sure you’ve cleared your caching plugin and your browser cache.

I changed the permissions on the includes folder. Also cleared cache and nothing changed. However, I disabled the W3 Cache plugin to test and everything is working properly now!! 🙂 I’ll go and find another cache plugin, hopefully that won’t cause another issue.

    Thanks!!!!

Ah yeah, I’ve not used it, but I’ve seen that that plugin can be a bit fussy sometimes. And, happily, there are quite a few alternatives. Glad you got it working in any case :)! You’re welcome.
