• I know this is probably a silly question, but I’m new to web hosting and servers.

Right now, I have the Windows GoDaddy server. I’ve been looking at other topics, and from what I understand, WordPress and the Windows server don’t get along well. I chose the Windows server because I have the Windows XP OS and I thought the Linux would not be compatible with my system. Is this true? Can I switch to the Linux server so I can use WordPress even though I run Windows XP?

  • There should be no problem using a Windows XP machine for your local machine, and having a Linux/PHP account on Godaddy.

Just so you know, a Windows Deluxe with CGI-b plan from Godaddy will also support WordPress.

    Thanks so much!

Leslie, just FYI, the operating system you run on your own computer does not have to be the same (or “compatible”) with the OS on your web hosting server.

Many people have Windows computers are home or work, but use web servers that run Linux, Unix, etc. It’s a non-problem.
