If it was slow from the beginning, I suspect it is the host. Are you on a shared host?
I would try deactivating Sharify and Wordfence Security.
And try using this plugin to reduce the number of blocking resources:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/use-google-libraries/
Results with this plugin vary, it may or may not work for you … every site is different.
I am not shard – I use space on a 1and1 server and have other sites that have no problem.
1and1 suggested I use http://gtmetrix.com to analyse the problem.
It tells me the following, amongst other less critical things.
I chose WordPress because I didn’t expect to have to work out what this is all about – all I have done is a standard installation and added a few plug ins. So now I don’t know whether to cointinue with it.
Make fewer HTTP requests
This page has 28 external Javascript scripts. Try combining them into one. This page has 21 external stylesheets. Try combining them into one.
Add Expires headers
There are 53 static components without a far-future expiration date.
The following cacheable resources have a short freshness lifetime. Specify an expiration at least one week in the future for the following resources:

In my opinion the server is still slow, just for it to start to send an image, CSS file of javascript it is slow to respond. This would have nothing to do with WordPress.
Did you deactivate the plugins I suggested? Did that help at all?
Did you try using the Google Libraries plugin like I suggested? I suggested this to keep those files from being served from your server … they’ll be far faster than your server and they will already be minified. Like I said though; Results with this plugin vary, it may or may not work for you … every site is different.
You can use a caching plugin like WP Rocket to combine and minify the CSS and JS. In my experience though, the minifying the JS can be hit or miss because not all plugins will work after they minified and combined with other plugins files.
Thank you shazahm1
I hadn’t because of time pressures, but getting my response from 1and1 I felt I shoulf follow through their request.
However, I have now taken your advice and installed the Google Libraries plugin. I have removed several plug ins inluding your suggestion.
Whilst admin still has a small problem it is faster now and front end is now OK.
I’ll ask 1and1 about imagea, CSS file and javascript.
Thank you for your help.

Yes, I see you page load time is much improved, load time is about half of what it was.
Using Google Libraries and WP Rocket could reduce load times by another half.
Will not have much effect in the admin though…
