I can help you with this one… it looks like there is an element with the id #branding with a z-index of 9999, therefore it displays as the top element above shiftnav.
If you make that value more reasonable in the css, you’ll be able to have shiftnav open up above the header image.

Do you happen to know how to hide or display:none on the .shiftnav-toggle-main-block?
I thought that it might be something in the shiftnav settings but couldn’t find it.
