..and now it’s too late for me to edit my previous post. ::sigh::
I downloaded a fresh copy of 2.1.3 and unzipped it. Deleted everything from the server (except the wp-config.php file), and uploaded the fresh copy.
Now neither the blog nor the admin area shows up. Instead, I have a lovely new error message:
Fatal error: Cannot instantiate non-existent class: wp_rewrite in /usr/www/users/sitename/blog/wp-settings.php on line 234
I did a search for this error, and there’s only one other person who’s had this issue. They were told to download a fresh copy of the files and start over…
EDIT: just tried doing a fresh installation in a new directory with a new prefix. Clicked the “install” link, and was taken to “install.php” –
where – oh joy! – the page in blank except for “-1” in the upper left-hand corner.
Okay, I’ve reinstalled the old site, and that’s back up and running as usual. Now I’m just trying to do this with a new installation, so I don’t bother the current site (I figure I’ll move everything after I get this sorted).
I managed to get 2.1 back on there, no problem. I made another installation, did 2.1.3, and triple checked that all files (save the images) were uploaded as ASCII. Permissions are all correct. I even used source files that I *know* work – they are my own files.
However, when I go to install, I still get the “-1” on the install page. Nothing whatsoever is showing up in the error logs. No errors are showing up on that page either – just the “-1”.
Would anyone have any ideas on what this means? I’d appreciate it.
EDIT: and oh yes – even weirder. When I visit the *blog* page – it shows the “license.txt” file. Never seen that one before.
2nd EDIT: double-checked, and error reporting *is* on – but I did see something I thought was odd in the phpinfo file. Something called “max-input-time” is set to “-1” – I’m wondering if this could be the issue? Is that a correct setting?
Well, I got it to work. I still don’t understand the mysterious issue with upgrading from 2.1 to 2.1.3, and what in the world that weird thing could have meant…
I upgraded to 2.1.2 first. Then upgraded to 2.1.3. *Then* I imported the backup. All is well now.
