• I updated my site. But now none of my plugins are available or working–even though I can see them on the server. I have tried deactivating them via FTP (since they don’t show up in the admin panel) but don’t know how to get them activated via FTP.
What should I do next? I am new at this so any very detailed directions would be appreciated.
    Thank you so much.
    Peggy

Try picking one of the plugins, then delete it and upload a manually downloaded replacement from https://wordpress.org/plugins/

Does that replaced plugin suddenly appear in your Dashboard?

I tried it but it is still not showing up in my dashboard.
    Anything else I should try?

So, you just have no Plugins listed in the Plugins section of your Dashboard?

Are you noticing any weirdness elsewhere in your Dashboard?

I am not noticing any other weirdness in my Dashboard. I have also tried adding plugins through the dashboard but they all fail.

You are correct–there are no plugins showing in my dashboard, although they appear in the file on the server.

What should be in the plugins folder of a fresh install?

I deleted all the plugins and tried adding one via the wp-admin and got this error message:
    Installing Plugin: Akismet 3.0.4

    Downloading install package from https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/akismet.3.0.4.zip…

    Unpacking the package…

    Installing the plugin…

The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.

    Plugin install failed.

could there be something wrong with the plugins.php file? Where should it be located in the Word Press file structure?

    Yeah, that’s definitely odd. 0_o

Try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.
