First of all, glad I’m not the only one whose slider went away w/ the 4.1 WP update last week, yikes!

I am 99% sure that w/ the old version of EasingSlider it gave me the option for the URL link associated with a panel to open in a NEW window. Can’t do that in the new version. Together with the sorting bug, to me this “update” seems like a backslide. Why in the WORLD would I want to navigate someone away from my site, just because I want to share a guest post with them??

    Please advise. Thanks.

    Hi Marcy.

Firstly, my sincere apologies for all of the inconvenience caused in the updates. As the sole developer, I’ve done everything within my abilities to ensure a smooth transition to the new versions but clearly in some cases there have been issues. In testing for the past 3 months, I’ve examined every eventuality available to me prior to release, however I cannot always reliably cater for certain server setups and installations. This is where errors occasionally occur. Put simply, the variations on hosting platforms are in the hundreds of thousands, so as a WordPress developer I’m left to do my best to cater for all with limit resources. Sometimes, things go wrong. Again, my apologies regardless.

The “Open in new window” option was an over site on my behalf. It has been scheduled for the next version, v2.2.0.8, which will be released over the weekend.

I made the vast changes to Easing Slider out of necessity. Quite simply, in its past form it would have quickly bankrupt me as the time and effort involved in maintaining it wasn’t covered by its earnings as a freemium product, and as such it would have been discontinued and shut down entirely. Instead, I’ve given it a new lease of life in a hope to transform it back into the thriving product it once was and maintain a sustainable business.

The changes were needed to build a plugin that could avail of premium extensions, much like Easy Digital Downloads and Ninja Forms. These are thriving companies that have managed to successfully push this model and I hope that Easing Slider can one day join their ranks.

To do this, I’ve had to completely rewrite how the plugin works, which in turn has given users access to more than just one slider. This changeover is far more than cosmetic – it’s an entire rewrite. I feel it’s not a backslide by any means – our competitors offer multiple sliders, and many of our users had been asking for it. I know this may not be of any use to you, but I feel this is a massive enhancement and a step forward, alongside many others which will come to fruition as the plugin develops 🙂

I’m the only developer of Easing Slider at the moment, so again I take responsibility for this and I apologise yet again. Sometimes people make mistakes, but I’m trying my best with the limited time I have whilst keeping food on the table 🙂 At 21, I’m learning!

I do hope you can avail of the new Easing Slider and what is has to offer. It’s gone from gathering dust to a product that has years of potential, and I’m excited to share this with my users.

Thanks for the quick response, Matthew, and believe me I DO understand needing to make business endeavors sustainable!

To update to the new version (w/ “Open in new window” back) that you’re releasing over the weekend, will there be a simple update process to follow that I can do myself? (In other words, not pay a VA to do, which is what I had to do when Easing Slider disappeared w/ my WP update?)

I’d like to understand better what having multiple sliders even means! You mean different sliders on different pages of a site, etc…? Maybe if I understood it, I’d appreciate it more, lol!

Thank you for your explanation and for fixing it w/ the new update. I’m actually relieved to find out that it was nothing more than an oversight. I think users forget that there are actual humans behind these various tech programs they use and get frustrated by, so it’s good to be reminded of that.

At 21 it seems to me you’re well on your way to entrepreneurial success!!

PS: Will there be an alert sent when the update is released?

Say, while I have your ear… any chance you can include a “Copy slide” function? That would be great for slides that have more text or are featured, that we want to stay up for double the length of time.
    Thanks…!

I’d hope to get a copy slide function in soon, I’ve added it to the list of enhancements for the future.

The “Open link in new window” option should now be restored also, so I’m going to mark this topic as resolved 🙂

Feel free to get back in touch if that isn’t the case! 🙂

Matthew, I just added a couple slides to my slider and the “Open in new window” was not there still. Do I need to download something, an updated version of the plug-in or anything? You didn’t alert me, if so.
