Hi Marcy.
Firstly, my sincere apologies for all of the inconvenience caused in the updates. As the sole developer, I’ve done everything within my abilities to ensure a smooth transition to the new versions but clearly in some cases there have been issues. In testing for the past 3 months, I’ve examined every eventuality available to me prior to release, however I cannot always reliably cater for certain server setups and installations. This is where errors occasionally occur. Put simply, the variations on hosting platforms are in the hundreds of thousands, so as a WordPress developer I’m left to do my best to cater for all with limit resources. Sometimes, things go wrong. Again, my apologies regardless.
The “Open in new window” option was an over site on my behalf. It has been scheduled for the next version, v2.2.0.8, which will be released over the weekend.
I made the vast changes to Easing Slider out of necessity. Quite simply, in its past form it would have quickly bankrupt me as the time and effort involved in maintaining it wasn’t covered by its earnings as a freemium product, and as such it would have been discontinued and shut down entirely. Instead, I’ve given it a new lease of life in a hope to transform it back into the thriving product it once was and maintain a sustainable business.
The changes were needed to build a plugin that could avail of premium extensions, much like Easy Digital Downloads and Ninja Forms. These are thriving companies that have managed to successfully push this model and I hope that Easing Slider can one day join their ranks.
To do this, I’ve had to completely rewrite how the plugin works, which in turn has given users access to more than just one slider. This changeover is far more than cosmetic – it’s an entire rewrite. I feel it’s not a backslide by any means – our competitors offer multiple sliders, and many of our users had been asking for it. I know this may not be of any use to you, but I feel this is a massive enhancement and a step forward, alongside many others which will come to fruition as the plugin develops 🙂
I’m the only developer of Easing Slider at the moment, so again I take responsibility for this and I apologise yet again. Sometimes people make mistakes, but I’m trying my best with the limited time I have whilst keeping food on the table 🙂 At 21, I’m learning!
I do hope you can avail of the new Easing Slider and what is has to offer. It’s gone from gathering dust to a product that has years of potential, and I’m excited to share this with my users.
