Is there anything we can add to tighten up on spam user registrations?

You could add Google reCAPTCHA!, which is available in the Pro version

P.S., I’ve added an enhancement to add a honey pot to the forms, this isn’t fool proof, but would help to an extent. It would be available in the free version, possibly on the next release. I plan on having a new release closer to the end of next month.
