Local host Url

I am editing a site on a local host using MAMP.
The only way I can get to the site is to enter http://localhost:8888/wordpress in the browser.
This gets me to the front page, the admin page, and allows me to customize. I can not access or preview individual posts on the local host?How do I get http://localhost:8888/maxlaxoc.com to work?
