So my website seems to have vanished – whenever I try to access http://www.ramblingdays.com I see nothing but white, same when I try to go straight to the dashboard.

Right before that happened I decided to take the plunge and tweak a wee bit of the CSS in my custom-header.php, as described below:
    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/header-image-size-8?replies=3

I can see now that “This file can be accessed only via FTP and not WordPress dashboard” – I edited in the Editor in dashboard.

I figured it was such a tiny tweak that even an technological moron like me could do it. Boy, was I wrong.

In my wordpress.com account there is a red sign with an exclamation mark next to the domain, but it doesn’t say what’s wrong or how to fix it.

Please, can someone help? and please explain it to me like I’m five – I’m very very new to this.
(to add insult to injury I am currently in India, with very unreliable internet access… but it’s crucial that the page should be up and running in three days tops!)
I’m hosting on Bluehost, if that makes a difference.

Please help, I am about to have a complete meltdown in India’s most depressing Internet cafe…

And I’m sorry if the answer is already somewhere in the forum – the couple of topics I opened didn’t answer my question and the internet is too slow for a thorough search…

    Thanks!
    Kaja

Is the site self hosted or on wordpress.com?

Either way restore the header file or switch themes to the default to get back in.

Hey Radices, thanks for your reply. The site is self hosted.
I figured I should just put the header file back to how it was, the problem is that I can’t access my Dashboard. How would I restore the header/switch themes otherwise? can I do that through my Bluehost account? (and yes, I am in way over my head… live and learn 🙂 )

    Cheers,

You can edit the file or replace it with a new one with the Bluehost file manager.

    Or by using FTP.

I accessed the file through FTP and deleted that offending line of code, it’s working again! 🙂
It was quite a brutal learning curve for me, thank you both for your help!

Awesome … could you mark this resolved please.
