Trying to verify with webmaster tools

Hi,

I’m trying to register/ verify my site with google webmaster tools.

I have followed the instructions. I downloaded the HTML verification file. I then uploaded it to the public_html file on my root directory.

When I go back to the Webmaster tools page, it asks me to click on a link to my site to confirm successful upload. But when I do this, it says that ‘nothing is found, try a search’.

I’ve deleted and reloaded it several times and it still won’t work. I’m wondering if I’m uploading it to the wrong place. I’m new to this a a bit stressed!
