Urgent help please – back-up

I am backing up my files to do the new upgrade so I can import my blogger blog and ditch them. I’ve been able to back up the database. But I don’t know how I can verify them. They are there, and the zip file opens, but I can’t open the actual sql file to see if it’s all there and good. Do I just trust since they are there, they really are there and able to be used for restore.

Also I downloaded my directory, no problem, and showed hidden files to see .htaccess and downloaded it. In the ftp program it says it downloaded but I don’t see it on my desktop – where ftp app says it is.

I haven’t changed any theme or added plug-ins yet. Am I done with the backup process. Can I move on now?
