• Here is what I am trying to do.
Lets say I am setting up a site about Dogs.
I am intereted in Dogs in general, Labs, Mutts and poddles

if I install wp on dogs.com
Do I use pages for labs mutts and poddles?
Or can I get labs.com for example and link from dogs.com ? But then dogs.com is going to have to have a different logo and all of that. which is fine.
If I use pages then I will not be able to set up a header for that page?

I just need to sit down and think through these issues.
Is there a FAQ on such things?

If you use Pages, you can have Page Templates specific to each Page you want. And those templates can completely change the design if you want.

…but then your url would be dogs.com/labs and dogs.com/poodles.

If you want different URLs, then I guess it’d be possible to do that with mod-rewrite, but I’m not positive.

But if dogs.com/labs is a good option for you, then what Otto says is correct – just create a different Page template for each section.

I’ve just written a plugin to do this for my own sites. It would allow you to take labs.com and dogs.com and point them at the same WordPress site, and have WordPress show a different site name and URLs for each one. I’m working on the next version that changes the Tag line too. It doesn’t change anything else but that could be added. You’ll find it here:
