Can’t change home page

I am having a lot of trouble changing my domain name to just mysite.com. For instance, my directory name is wordpresss, and therefore the default homepage is (example) mysite.com/wordpress. I’m trying to change the homepage to just mysite.com.

I followed all the directions, changed my blog address to mysite.com and left the wordpress adress as mysite.com/wordpress. I also followed the other instructions, but after going through with it, it still didon’t work.

I finally gave up and decided to uninstall wordpress and reinstall it. However, with the new wordpress directory I wasn’t given a new htacess file; I still had the old one in my root file. Therefore, after my new wordpress directory was up, I again switched the index.php to the root file, and tried switching the homepage again, without success.

I’m just wondering why I don’t get a new htacces file when I install a new wordpress, and if this has anything to do with me not being able switch the homepage? If anybody has any suggestions on how to change the homepage to mysite.com, or step by step instructions, I’d appreciate it.
