• I got an error message that resulted in my site – bobsmithneedsanagent.com – turning into just a few lines of code when accessed, both dashboard and site logins. Ipage support disabled NextGen and told me to contact you. The error message was lost in the shuffle, but did say incorrect php. The site is now up, minus all the work I’d done with nextgen. I had been away from site a few weeks but I believe it was still working ok on 29 nov. Can you fix w/o losing all my work? Why did it stop when I made no changes? Will it happen again. I am hesitant to upgrade to WP 4.1 for fear of losing everything.

@pofoti – You could try deactivating *all* plugins, temporarily switching to a default WordPress Twenty series theme, updating to the current version of WordPress (4.1) then reactivating NextGEN Gallery *only*. Although we have had reports that appear specifically related to iPage (which are still being investigated) this should be a very safe method of updating WordPress and checking NextGEN Gallery is stable on your site.

You could also delete NextGEN Gallery first and after updating re-install NextGEN Gallery again under Plugins > Add New.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I’m not new to computers, but this is the first time I’ve tried building a site. So, if I’m not asking the right questions, feel free to answer them anyway. When you say “temporarily switching” will that keep my indices, page names, colors, etc? Also, will the photos I’ve uploaded to wordpress still be there in the library? Do I have to update to 4.1? What is the advantage? If things are still ”being investigated” does that mean I will just fritz again? If I follow your first suggestion, does that mean the galleries as originally placed will still be there? With the second, I assume I’d have to rebuild them. Just when I thought I was figuring out what I was doing this happened so I don’t want to do anything rash. I’m using NextGen 66.29 not 37. The only other plugins I have active are google fonts and doc embedder and theme tweaker. Again, thanks. Bob

@pofoti – First, always update to the latest stable release of any plugin, theme, and especially WordPress core itself. There can be many reasons but most are well founded and updating should be considered a best practice.

As to the site’s content, switching themes should not affect that in the least except how that content is displayed (the primary function of a theme). Image uploaded will not be lost or deleted and should remain accessible in the same manner they were prior to updating.

As far as iPage issues go, we are still watching to see if they are corrected which they should be but in some rare cases they may re-appear or a similar issue may appear as well. There is only so much we can do to be compatible with hosted WordPress solutions, most are exceedingly fine but sometimes improvements by one or another can cause temporary issues.

For more information about troubleshooting plugins, here is a codex article that goes into some depth: http://codex.wordpress.org/Managing_Plugins#Troubleshooting

    Thanks!
