How did you revert back to 4.0? I’m having the same trouble as you after the 4.0.1 installation.
I can’t even access the admin page.
Running an old version is a significant security risk – not a good solution. What you will need to do is use FTP or another file manager to access your site files on the server – start by renaming the plugins folder to “pluginsHOLD” – that should deactivate all plugins and hopefully you’ll be able to login again.
@thamus – if the above doesn’t work for you, please start your own thread here so someone can assist you specifically.
SOLUTION
After six reinstalls, my hosting development team found that the .htaccess file was corrupt. The original was renamed as htaccess.OLD and a new one created. This fixed the issue.
I’m getting the 500 Internal Server error when I try to access http://www.gravelbike.com/wp-admin/
I can access the site itself, but can’t access the admin pages.
@gravelbikecom:
It’s most likely a corrupt .htacess file. Go to your hosting account’s file manager, locate your .htacess file, and rename it to .htacessOLD. Then create a new file and name it .htacess. See if that works.
@gravelbikecom – please open your own thread as per the forum guidelines – and also ask your hosting company how to access your site error logs – to get some additional info as to what’s going on.

I opened a new ticket for my issue (thanks, BTW).
