Yeah, what’s going on with this? I was hoping to get the pro version so I could get some help integrating it with bbpress.
IMHO the message is pretty clear. This plugin is not supported anymore and there is no pro version available anymore.
Excuse me, no that wasn’t pretty clear. A new version was posted what….two weeks ago? With tantalizing new features no less. This is quite sudden. What happened?
New EU VAT rules, too little community support, too many lazy users just dumping their questions, not reading the FAQ, bad wordpress.org (plugin) management who dictate things without any room for discussion.
I have stopped supporting all of my WordPress plugins in the course of time and this is the last one. The new EU VAT rules were the final drop. You will probably see more problems coming from it. The main problem is that there is no free allowance anymore, which will force people to do VAT administration per EU country, which is a kind of stupid for just a few donations.
It is time WordPress will be replaced by something new and better. It’s core is ancient and it’s community isn’t as strong as it was. I guess I am not the only serious plugin developer who is leaving.

Hey Marcel,
That’s bad news. Sorry to hear, that you are frustrated with all the overhead. To last questions:
– Will you release your plugin(s) as open source software?
– What do you think, should replace WordPress?
Kind Regards and thank you for the great plugins
Ray
Add Link to Facebook has always been open source software.
Anything on wordpress.org is open source software.
Please note that I am still the copyright holder, so you cannot redistribute Add Link to Facebook without my permission.
Ghost seems to be quite actively developed: https://ghost.org/
Really Sad to hear that the pro version is no available any more. Though I don’t understand the reason, I guess it has something to do with VAT Tax in Europe.
I guess if it is about price and taxes, I am sure a lot of people are willing to pay more for it.
Please consider the request and rethink your decision. It is really difficult to find good developers and plugins.
Thanks for a great plugin Marcel.
“Please note that I am still the copyright holder, so you cannot redistribute Add Link to Facebook without my permission.”
That is not correct. Like other plugins, you have licensed it under GNU General Public License version 3. You explicitly write in the code:
“This program is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by
the Free Software Foundation; either version 3 of the License, or (at your option) any later version.”
I am very sorry this very useful plugin will no longer be maintained. IT is a pitty EU VAT-rules makes it to difficult. I hope someone else will maintain it.
