Moving from Slash to WordPress?
-
I’ve just started using WordPress for my personal blog, and it’s wonderfully manageable and appears stable and stuff. Gosh!
I also have a Slash-based site at rocknerd.org . Slash is unspeakably awful to manage – if you’re not actually slashdot.org, everything will break if you look at it funny.
(And we ran Squishdot on Zope before that. Oh my goodness that was awful. You really don’t want to know.)
I want to replace Slash with WordPress. Port the user data, port the stories, port the comments, add the topic pictures plugin, Bob’s yer aunty.
The one function I can’t work out how to add: an entry submission form. Allowing any random bozo on the net to make story submissions. It’s easy enough to let any logged-in user write entries (which the editors can then approve or not), but I can’t find anything suitable in the basic install or in plugin form.
Has anyone got any ideas on the entry submission functionality? Or anything else I might want to get back the important Slash functions.
