    – where and how did you disable it?

    – Just undo what you did before this problem happened.

Well i figured out what the the lock was, it shows what the tags are associated with the post, but now I am unsure how to remove tags from the page entirely

Are you talking about post or pages?

As far as post are concerned you add tags where you create a new post or edit a post

I am talking about posts. Even if I don’t add a tag there is a tag icon and then empty is written beside it, I would like for the tags to be completely absent from my site.

    what theme are you using?

    – “unsail” theme is not in the WP official theme repository.
    – you’ll be more likely to find a good answer from your theme’s developers, for they have the access to its code. http://codex.wordpress.org/Forum_Welcome#Commercial_Products

Meanwhile, try a few basic troubleshooting steps:
    – Flushing any caching plugins you might be running, as well as server and/or browser caches.
    – deactivating ALL plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
    – If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the unedited default Twenty Fourteen Theme for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).
