• Hi there,

I’m having trouble with NextGEN Gallery’s management of picture tags. It would seem that the tags are added to the WordPress database when a picture is added, but there is no subsequent subtraction of the tag count when the image is deleted. For example, you could upload and delete the same photo 10 times with the tag “bird” in it, and in the end your database would think that there’s a whole flock of birds flying around your site (even if the photo is ultimately deleted.)

…Which brings me to my main issue: when there are no longer any images that possess a tag that still remains in the database, tag clouds throw out errors, image searches don’t work properly, etc.

Is there any way to correct this problem? I suspect the best solution may be to run an SQL command in the database, refreshing the picture tag count, but I unfortunately am not a coder…

FYI, I’m developing a site (twenty fourteen theme) on WAMP (sorry, no link) running up to date versions of WordPress and NextGEN Gallery.

Anyway, thanks for your time, and thanks so much for such a useful plugin!

@qwertastic – We are aware of some miscounted entities with some items. We believe this will also be fully corrected with the next (major) release of NextGEN Gallery.

At the moment, all I can offer for a work around on the “empty” nest syndrome is to delete the tag from under Gallery > Manage Tags.

PS: Great analogy with the birds 🙂

@qwertastic – You’re welcome. Please let us know if the next (major) release does not help sort this out (look for version 2.0.68+).
