Enabling Cloudflare with W3TC

    hi all,

    I’m trying to set up Cloudflare on my website – http://www.wilflare.com

    Can I check if this is the right way to do it

    (1) Setup Cloudflare via HostGator Cpanel OR Setup via Cloudflare website (changing DNS, etc… which I would like to avoid if possible)
    (2) Install W3TC Cloudflare extension – with this, I don’t need the Cloudflare WordPress Plugin right?

    I’m already using Autoptimize to minify and compress my CSS and JS – so I just have to ensure I disable them on Cloudflare and W3TC right?

    This is fine. Please keep in mind that we can only provision CNAMEs signing up through a hosting partner (like www).

    Correct. You don’t need the CloudFlare plugin if you’re already using W3TC.

    Yes, or you will see an issue at some point. You only want to be running one minify option on a site at a given time.

    would you recommend I sign up/set up via Cloudflare.com instead of via my hosting partner?

    Can I just setup W3TC Cloudflare extension without doing any of Step 1?

    Sorry I’m a little confused by the whole process.

    If you want us to protect more than CNAMEs, yes.

    No, since the extension is not what activates our service.

    thanks damon, just to check

    is there a way to do this to ensure that there’s no downtime on my site?
    my domain is currently on namecheap using namecheap’s nameservers
    there’s also Google Apps

    Hi,

    You shouldn’t have any downtime switching to our nameservers.

    I assume you’re using apps for mail. This will also work fine as long as you have the correct mail and mx records in your zone file for the domain.

    thanks for all the replies. I have finally switched on Cloudflare for my site at http://www.wilflare.com

    just to check, I don’t quite understand the PageRules bit https://support.cloudflare.com/hc/en-us/articles/201717894-Using-CloudFlare-and-WordPress-Five-Easy-First-Steps

    the advice seems to pertain to mydomain.com – what happens if my site url is http://www.mydomain.com – what kind of pagerule do I create?

    should I also include the asterisks?

    Hi,

    PageRules can be used on www as well (mydomain.com is just an example).

    Yes, if you want it to wildcard. Say you’re doing one for the wp-admin section, for example, it would cover something like:

    yoursite.com/wp-admin/
    yoursite.com/wp-admin/adifferenturl
