This suggests that your current theme is the issue.
Do I have to abandon this theme and move on to a new one altogether
Looking at “surfarama”, it has not been updated for over two years!!!
Therefore, chances are this theme is not compatible with WP your 4.0
installation.

If no response, then you may want to consider looking for another theme, unless you can find the problem and fix it yourself.
Ya, that’s what I figured. Is there any place where I could even start my troubleshooting for the theme if I wanted to take a stab at it? What aspect of the theme could even potentially impact the media library? Functions?

No idea – I am not familiar with that theme.
Check your .htaccess file permission. The owner should have rwx permission. This file is usually hidden, for good reason. So use your ftp client to check its permission.
Hello, I also experience this problem with the media library on my website Torturi Bucuresti but only on the grid view. If I switch to list view everything loads fine.
Been searching to resolve this for 2 weeks and is driving me nuts. Please help!
Thanks for the suggestion. I checked the .htaccess file in the root folder and it did not have execute permission. I allowed execute, but still no dice.
hometrends.designs, it works for me on list view, but not on grid view too.

to get full attention to your specific issue, my suggestion would be to start your own thread. Despite any similarity in symptoms, your issue is likely to be completely different because of possible differences in physical servers, accounts, hosts, plugins, theme, configurations, etc. Thus one problem, on one setup is not indicative of the functionality and reliability of an application as a whole.
