    Hi!

    I have a WP MU installation with subdomains since one year. The WP MU works fine, but I want to use “real” domain names instead of the subdomain names.

    Let’s say I have the MP MU site on my IP address “myIP”. It also can started with “wp-installation.com”. One site / blog is running at “http://wp-installation.com/target/”. I want to run this blog under “target-domain.com”, so I redirect in the settings of the server “target-domain.com” to “http://wp-installation.com/target/”. This works fine.

    The goal is to show in the address bar of the browser the domain “target-domain.com”. So I use MU Domain Mapping. I try everything but either it shows “http://wp-installation.com/target/” or it dont’t work.

    Maybe I don’t understand everythink here, maybe I could’nd made the correct settings in my server, because I have a dedicated *managed* server. I think I have the same problem posted in https://wordpress.org/support/topic/different-urls-1, but I use the settings in my server instead of DirectAdmin. I also try to set the domain pointed to “http://target-domain.com/” instead of “http://wp-installation.com/target/” but then it only show the domain “http://wp-installation.com/”.

    This are the last settings I try:

    SERVER Configuration:
    * “myIP” is pointed to http://wp-installation.com
    * target-domain.com ist pointed to http://wp-installation.com/target/

    WP MU Configuration:

    – WordPress Version 3.9.2
    – WordPress MU Domain Mapping Version 0.5.4.3
    hopefully correctly installed

    – Domain Mapping Configuration
    * Server IP Address: “myIP”
    // with “myIP” I start the
    * Server CNAME domain:
    // None, I use IP adress

    – Domain Options
    1. [ ] Remote Login
    2. [X] Permanent redirect (better for your blogger’s pagerank)
    3. [X] User domain mapping page
    4. [X] Redirect administration pages to site’s original domain
    5. [ ] Disable primary domain check.

    – Domain Mapping: Domains
    * Site ID: 7
    * Domain: target-domain.com

    Does anyone see what I made false?

    so I redirect in the settings of the server “target-domain.com” to “http://wp-installation.com/target/”.

    You should not be setting up a redirect. A redirect sends a message back to the visitor browser saying load this other URL instead.

    You park the domain you map onto your WP install & let the DM plugin manage getting the request to the correct site.

    Hi Ron!

    Thank you for your help … but … it also don’t work 🙁
    I try this with an other domain, but it always show the WP install domain.

    SERVER Configuration:
    * “myIP” is pointed to “http://wp-installation.com”
    * “target-domain.com” ist pointed to “http://wp-installation.com”
    * Site ID: 8
    * Domain: “target-domain.com”
    * Primary: No matter.

    Question: I have a “root” domain “/” for the administration of the other blogs. Could this prevent the correct redirection?

    ARGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

    I got it!!!

    In my SERVER settings
    * Domain: “target-domain.com”
    * Home directory: “/wp-installation” (!!!!)

    In my WP MU:
    * Site ID: 8
    * Domain: “target-domain.com”
    * Primary: No matter.

    I seem that as I choose “http://wp-installation.com” instead of the WP-installation path “/wp-installation-path” a new DNS call was started and the calling-name was replaced.
    … I suppose this …

    Ron, many many thanks for your inspiration!
