First let me explain how the files are set up on the server. There is the root directory with a bunch of random files and folders, and a folder named candlelight, which contains all the wordpress files including wp-admin, etc.

So to the problem. I was deleting some unnecessary files in the root with a FTP tool and in the root file I think I accidently deleted some important files because I now get the error “Not Found The requested URL / was not found on this server.” when I go on my site.

I know I should have backed up, but it’s too late now.
So after researching online, I think I may have deleted a .htaccess file or a Index.php, if they were even there in the first place. I tried adding my own .htaccess file and adding the Index.php from wordpress download, but neither help. Please any tips would be helpful.

Do you still have an index.php file in that directory?

In my root folder, I don’t. But I have tried to put the original one from the wordpress installation zip file in the root, but the page is just white.

Try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.
