Recently I’ve opened up a new blog, hosted on a seperate hosting-site (neostrada, a Dutch company). Things work fine on my MacBook, i.e. I can sign into the admin page in Safari and edit all I want. Now the thing is to get into this same page on my iPad browser. So not on the WordPress App. Whenever I visit ‘mydomainname.com/wp/wp-login.php’ on my MacBook I get a login screen where I can easily login like it’s supposed to.

Now I’m trying to do the same thing on my iOS devices (i.e. iPad/iPhone) and this is what happens:
    1. Open up Safari
    2. enter this url: mydomainname.com/wp/wp-login.php
    3. A pop-up shows up saying “authentication required”
    4. I enter the username and password I’ve chosen for the admin (correctly, I’m sure of it)
    5. I Press ‘log in’
    6. The pop-up shows again
    7. retry step 4 & 5 and repeat infinetely

Anybody who understands this problem and maybe has an idea how to solve it?

It sounds like you have .htaccess authentication setup, that’s something which triggers before WordPress is a somewhat common security measure.

If so, the username and password it’s asking for there would be separate from what you setup in WordPress.

Do you recall setting up such a thing?

I don’t recall anything like that. Is there any way to check if I have set up anything like that?

Sure, what is the link to the site? If I can see it in action, I can probably tell what it is.

The url to the website is: thetravellingpa.com

Ah, that appears to be something added by your hosting provider. It looks like regular .htaccess password protection, but it’s actually a captcha, and a completely ineffective captcha at that given that it shows what you should enter in plain text.

To be honest, a completely ineffective security measure is a waste of everyone’s time. If I were in your shoes, I’d ask the hosting provider to remove it. If you don’t want to do that, the pop-up says exactly what it wants you to enter. Once you do that, *then* you can log in with your WordPress account details.

    Hi James,

Thanks a lot. The problem has been somewhat dealt with (the Captcha shows on my MacBook and doesn’t refresh so I can use it twice), but I’ve still contacted my host. Thanks again for your help!
