[Theme: Backcountry] How to extend site border

In my header area where I have my logo the top of the site abruptly ends so that my logo barely clears the top of the site. It doesn’t look good so I would like change it and add more space between the logo and the top border. I can’t seem to figure out how to do this in CSS, as every time I try to add “padding-top” it just changes the space between the bottom of my logo and my site body rather than the top of the logo and the site border.
