I installed Postie through WordPress today, ran through all of the setup features listed in the documentation, contacted my host provider (HostGator) and worked with their technicians to try and get the connection to work and it will not connect.

According to HostGator, “I do apologize for any issue experienced with the use of this Postie plugin, I am showing that this connection is being attempted successfully and without error through php-imap however the debug for this script is showing this is failing due to a timeout of the connection to the gmail mail server. I am not indicating any issue with your server that would cause this issue however so it would appear to be related to an issue with the gmail server rejecting this connection or a conflict with the way that this plugin is attempting the connection and you would need to contact the plugin developer for additional assistance with this issue.”

I have the Debug Notes if you would like those.

Can you please help me resolve the issue I am having? Thank you as I look forward to using your plugin in the near future.

Here is what the Postie Test Configuration says:

    Warning: imap_open(): Couldn’t open stream {pop.gmail.com:995/service=pop3/ssl/notls/novalidate-cert}INBOX in /home4/nelson/public_html/nelsonwordpress/wp-content/plugins/postie/postieIMAP.php on line 89
Unable to connect. The server said:

Did you follow all the steps listed here?
    http://postieplugin.com/faq/gmail-settings/
Specifically the one about enabling POP3/IMAP?

I followed all of the steps listed on the FAQ you referenced above. I also contacted my hosting provider which tested their end to make sure everything was working properly (nothing was blocked) and all seems to be in order.

Within Gmail, under the Forwarding and POP/IMAP setting:
    POP is enabled
    IMAP is enabled

My hosting provider is HostGator and according to their literature, I have shell access. Currently I am engaging them to find out about shell access and make sure that I have it.

According to technical support from HostGator, the ports that I need are open and available.

Everything about this plugin seems great and I would love to use it. Hopefully we can work this through and get it working for me. Thanks.

Just to see if I could get Postie to connect to my mailserver using my HostGator web hosting, I changed the email information around to use my domain and not my Google account. That worked.

I really would prefer to use my Google account in the future.

Where do I send the email to get it to post to my Blog?

You need to create a email account at HostGator specifically for Postie. I.e. myblog@mydomain.com

I have create an email account with HostGator which I am using to post to directly to the Blog from my gmail account with.

The issue now is, when I send a post to the blog via email, it posts multiple times. Do you have any reason why this would be happening?

I have set Postie to delete the email message after it is sent to see if that will stop the problem.

Another issue I have been having is when sending from my Gmail account and inserting a picture into the email. When I have inserted a picture into the email and typed words before the picture, when it comes up as a post, the words are to the side of the image. How can I change that?

I apologize for all of the questions. At this time, trial and error is working for me and I am figuring out the different things I need to do on my own.

Thank you for your support. This Plugin is great!
