• When checking the WassUp summary for visitor stats, I often see, at the end of an article link, share references such as /?share=twitter, /?share=linkedin, /?share=google-plus-1, /?share=pinterest, etc. Can someone tell me what they mean? Is it that someone, say, followed a twitter link to visit the article and the source is being added to that article url, e.g., /?share=twitter? Or if it means someone just clicked the Twitter share button to share that article?

I’m not familiar with WassUp, but I’d suspect that maybe your sharing buttons are appending ?share= to the type of share so that you have some sort of rudimentary stat as to how popular your site is amongst certain audiences.

For example, if you have 20 people visiting from ?share=twitter, that would probably mean that 20 people clicked a link shared on Twitter via one of your share buttons. If only 8 people visited from ?share=google-plus-1, then that would suggest that you have a better audience on Twitter than Google+.

Anyway, that’s all just speculation based on some things I have seen frequently. If we had a link to your site, it would be easier to tell.
