There are 2 things:
Your login name
Your nickname
The login name you cant change
The nickname you can make anything you want
To create a nickname, go to your ->profile
Look for ‘Display Name Publicly’and a dropdown box
Look what is in there
If ‘Admin’ is the only option, look right above
In the ‘Nickname’ field put what you want to be called
Update your profile
Now, look in the same dropdown box
You should see your newly picked nickname
Choose it, then update your profile again
Look up it should greet you with your new nickname, as well as on the public site
I was going to edit user name to include my email, but realized that looked dumb. So I did nothing on the Edit User name. Now I get no author name next to the post at all.
I did exactly as openpundit said above: both my first name and nickname are the same. Updated. No name at all appears in my post next to the date.

Thanks for giving me my name back.
Is this line still present in your theme’s index.php?
<p class="post-info"><?php the_time('M jS, Y') ?> by <?php the_author_posts_link() ?> <?php edit_post_link('Edit', '', ' | '); ?> </p>
Srikat, MANY THANKS! No, it wasn’t there (the author posts part), so I copied your line and now it’s fine. I don’t know how it disappeared, but WordPress has its mysteries…
Thanks again for such a speedy answer!
