You can either:
1. Use shortcode and set the start date to be the 1st of that month. This has only just been added recently, and it seems the shortcode hasn’t been added to the list. The code is: [ai1ec exact_date='1-10-2014']
BTW: I haven’t tried it, so I can’t tell you if it’s dd-mm-yyyy or mm-dd-yyyy (it may even be dependant on your WP date config). A bit of experimentation will reveal that.
2. Change the default for the whole calendar to start with that date by changing the value in Dashboard->Events-Settings –> Viewing Settings next to Default calendar start date (optional).
Look in Dashboard->Events->Settings –> Advanced->Shortcodes for a list of other shortcodes and their options. You can combine shortcode options together – just use ai1ec once, and separate the options by a space.
