excerpts not showing

hi, i have everything set up to show the excerpts of the posts but they are not showing at all. all i see is the Read more > that was added instead of the […].

i dont want to show the content because part of the content includes the title of the post too, so if i show the content i see the title twice on the posts page. and thats not good 😉

.Im using the plugin in a widget btw.
