Error: Only variables should be passed by reference

    I get the following message in the application error log, I get this when I am working to cleanup the comments from WP-Admin

    [08-Sep-2014 09:58:18 UTC] PHP Strict Standards: Only variables should be passed by reference in /<site_path>/html/wp-content/plugins/akismet/class.akismet-admin.php on line 407

    Is this something serious that needs to be looked into or a minor warning that can be safely ignored?
