    Have you tried manual update?

    – try MANUALLY re-uploading all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first!
    – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php
BTW, if you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong. It’s a great safety net.

It was a manual update that I did, I followed all the steps (clearly not that well) but updated all the files and got that message

I’m not sure what I did wrong, the back up I made isn’t restoring either

The error message you’re getting is indicative of an incomplete upgrade.

Try the update again. And be very, very sure that you upload ALL the files. Specifically, you appear to be missing some files from the wp-includes directory. Make sure that every file in the WordPress ZIP is put on the site.

    Thanks, I’ll try again

Were you able to resolve this issue? If not, I would suggest contacting your web hosting provider to have them restore from a backup point that the site worked, and then attempt the upgrade again.

Issue still not resolved, have managed to get the hosting company to restore a back up from the 31st aug

I am back onto the word press control panel but now have two error messages

Unable to write to your .htaccess or nginx.conf file. If the problem persists contact support.

Unable to write to your wp-config.php file. If the problem persists contact support.

and if I try to load the website it just has a landing page saying Site coming soon

checked the error logs and got this

[05-Sep-2014 10:44:30 Europe/London] PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp() in /home/montague/public_html/wp-blog-header.php on line 14

    have resloved this now

had to rename the index.html file on ftp to index2.html, that allowed index.php to take control.

    Thanks to all who responded
