I’m looking at “Customize the Promo Display for your button”, and I’ve clicked on “Create your advertising campaign on an easy-to-use self-serve interface”, but I am not sure what to do when it says, “Insert your ad unit location (your html file including the ad code).”

Since Google Adsense code is javascript, I don’t have an html file for my Adsense adverts. I was hoping I could simply type in my Adsense account number (“ca-pub-xxxxxxx”), but it does not look like I can do that.

How can I have my Adsense account receive credit for any clicks on the Promo Display, or is that not possible?

    Many thanks,

    Mark

I followed your instructions and it’s working great. Thank you. :O)

Some customers might not understand your instructions though. Here is a suggested change, although please check it to make sure it is correct.

    1) Login to http://e-mailit.com

    2) Click on ‘Show All Buttons’ on the left navigation bar.

    3) Scroll down to ‘Customize the Promo Display for your button’.

    4) Assuming you will want to use an Google Adsense ad, create a 300×250 ad in your Adsense account and copy the code.

    5) Using Notepad (Windows) or TextEdit (Mac), paste your adsense code in and save the file with an ‘html’ extension. You can name the file anything you want, but an easy way to identify it in the future would be to name it ’emailitadunit.html’ (without the quote marks).

    6) Upload that file to your blog and place it in your ‘public_html’ or similar folder (check with your hosting service if you do not know how to upload a file or if you have questions about which folder to put the file in).

    7) Copy the URL for your e-mailit ad unit html file into the field under ‘Customize the Promo Display for your button’. The URL should look something like: yourwebsite.com/emailadunit.html (Replace ‘yourwebsite.com’ with your blog’s actual URL, and if you named your e-mailit ad unit differently, change ’emailadunit.html’ to the name you gave it.

    8) If you wish, enter a start date and end date for your ad, or leave blank to start it running immediately and indefinitely.

    9) On the upper right of the page, click ‘Publish now’. Note your new Button ID (it will be near the top of the page).

    10) In your blog’s admin section, hover over ‘Settings’ and then click on ‘EMAILiT Share’. Near the bottom of the page, find ‘Your Button ID:’ and enter your new Button ID in that field and then click ‘Save Changes’.

    11) If you want to double check to make sure your ad is displaying, refresh your blog, click on the ‘Share’ button, and then right-click on the ad and select ‘View frame source’. Then search that frame source code for ‘client=ca-pub-‘ (without the quotes). Your adsense code appears right after ‘pub-‘).

    All the Best,

    Mark
