Change Search Widget drop down labels

I have the search widget just pulling from the taxonomies of Status and Property Types, however, my client thinks his clients won’t understand what Status means so he would like me to change the label of that search drop down to “Choose For Sale or Lease” instead of “Status”. Any suggestions, I figure I might need to do something in the class-listings-search-widget.php and I know that is not a smart thing to do because of updates, but I always keep a log of changes I make to plug-in files so I can re-edit after an update.
